Sadly, my friend and I were very disappointed with the Trail Sports shop at the Nordic Centre. My friend was visiting from Ottawa for work, and we decided to go hiking on Mon after her meeting, so we drove up from Calgary. Due to bear alerts, we decided to take the extra precaution of renting bear spray. We left the shop with the spray at about 2-2:15pm, and we were not told when they closed or when the spray had to be returned by. The hike took us about 5 hours (it kicked our A**es and while neither of us are frequent hikers, but we are both fit). We got back to the shop to return the spray, and they were closed! This resulted in my friend driving back the next day from Calgary to return the spray and get my ID, where she was met with incredibly rude and dismissive customer service by a young lady working that day. She expressed to the employee that we were disappointed that the day before, when we rented the spray, the staff neglected to tell us when to return it and what time they closed. Considering they knew we were going on a late afternoon hike and there was a chance we wouldn't make it back in time before closing one would assume we would be given the courtesy of those details (yes the closing times were on the door, but in our excitement to get going we didn't notice). The young lady 'helping' her responded by saying its not the staffs responsibility to let everybody know when they close and when things need to be returned by (ummm?? when renting items, how is it not staff responsibility to let customers know when things should be returned?), and that she can hike Ha Ling Peak in 3 hrs or less (ok, good for her... we didn't). Both of us have worked in customer service before , and this response was so petty and rude considering the circumstances. It was a huge inconvenience to drive out from Calgary again to return the spray, and all my friend was saying was that it would have been nice had we been told a return time and closing times, given that we rented it so late in the day. We at the time, assumed that they must be open until 8 or 9 since they were allowing us to rent so late in the afternoon when we were going on what could be a longer hike. This young ladies response was completely unsympathetic and was essentially a slap in the face. I will not be going back, and will tell everyone I know, to rent elsewhere. Customer service roles (this coming from someone who works in hospitality and customer service) should not be about making customers feel small - it should be HELPING customers, assisting them, etc. Instead, not only were not given the courtesy to being told when to return our rented item and how long we had to do so before they closed, but my friend was also treated like sh** when she drove over 2 hrs there and back the next day to return it and had the audacity to express her frustration. I hope this review is read by someone in management there and appropriate changes are made in how they treat customers.

I have given this shop two chances. The first time we took my elderly father for X country lessons. We found they were quite sarcastic and arrogant with our father who was having trouble understanding the instruction. I vowed never to use them again. After several years I decided to give them another shot. I went in and bought my husband and myself two high end boots for just over a thousands dollars, We were considering also buying high end skis too. They suggested I demo a pair. I did this. They were busying when I returned from the demo. I went back two days later. The sales person humiliated me and gave me heck for taking the demos out so long. I was mortified and embarrassed. I had even told him where I was planning to ski and received no instruction to the contrary. He said I basically got a free rental . Really? I have my own skis. I just dropped over $1000 k on boots and was considering two pairs of a thousand dollars skis and they were suggesting I was milking them for a free rental. I will never ever buy a single item from them again. I will strongly encourage everyone I know to go elsewhere,
